6 Jaw-dropping Songs from 2014 For Your Wedding
Weddings are like an emotional rollercoaster that flies up more than down. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, everyone’s emotions are at the brim and we all need a little to shake it off, not necessarily the Taylor Swift way.
The highlight of every wedding is when the music starts playing; a kaleidoscope of lights scattering on a variety of occupants on the dance floor, each with varying levels of consciousness. This is where everyone burns all the calories consumed over an 8-course meal and exchanges all excess emotions of the adrenaline rush that comes from dancing. No words needed, no tears needed; just you and your moves on the dance floor.
Here are 6 songs that would keep those dancing adrenaline running:
1. Sugar – Maroon 5

Ever since front man, Adam Levine got married to Victoria Secret’s babe Behati Prinsloo, Maroon 5 have taken a positive perspective in their songs on love. Sugar is an upbeat song about love that would guarantee all your older relatives above the age of 55 to be shaking their hips and fancy 2 steps (or more!) on the dance floor. Now this is a moment that will create a revival in conversations among the family, friends and guests for many years to come.
Memorable lyrics: I want that red velvet/ I want that sugar sweet/ Don’t let nobody touch it/ Unless that’s somebody is me
2. All of Me – John Legend
Every girl filled with 50 to 40 picograms of Estrogen will stop on track just to savour every word John Legend sings in this song. This is definitely a song for couple to slow dance to, no words needed because John is singing everything on your mind.
Memorable lyrics: All of me/ Loves all of you/ Love your curves and all your edges/ All your perfect imperfections
3. Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
This ginger from Britain has a knack for making us women feel part of popular pop culture dominated by S- sized women. After the 8 course meal, this is a perfect song to bring your confidence up with your significant other. This is also a perfect song for couples to perform for their first dance. Ed might make the choreography look intimidating with all the lifts and twirls but take all of that out, this is actually a very feasible piece to dance to – with sufficient amount of practice, of course.
Memorable lyrics: Take me into your loving arm/ Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars/ Place your head on my beating heart/ I’m thinking out loud/ Maybe we found love right where we are
4. Treasure – Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars’ 2013 hit Marry Me was in every wedding playlist. Well, this year, there’s no exception. Bruno has a gift for busting out lyrics once heard! His lyrics seem to get attached and live as a parasite in your mind. Top it off with an addictive melody, it does take a rocket scientist to provide a diagnosis to Bruno’s chart topping hits. Treasure has a jazzy over-the-top 70’s vibe which would appeal to guests of all ages. Music, after all, is universal. Time to bust those moves and sing to the beat people!
Memorable lyrics: Treasure, That’s just what you are/ Honey, You’re my golden star/ You know you can make my wish come true/If you let me treasure you
5. Lay Me Down – Sam Smith
Lay Me Down is not your typical ‘why I love you so much’ type of song but a song about commitment which I deduce is a perfect theme song for a wedding. So, dim the lights and pull your significant other to the dance floor. This might be your wedding but other guests can silently renew vows through a slow dance with Sam reciting promises to your significant other for you with his sweet vocals.
Memorable lyrics: Can I lay by your side? / Next to you / And make sure you’re alright / I’ll take care of you/ I don’t want to be here if I can’t be with you tonight
6. Scream – Paolo Nutini
Love does not need to come in with an appointment to funk your life up. Paolo brings all male guest back in time when they first laid eyes on their female counterpart. Love does not just make you all warm and cuddly, it’ll also make you utter words of love, sometimes it makes you scream! This song is the final catalyst to shake off those lingering feelings by screaming it all out.
Memorable lyrics: She’s your church, She’s your sin, She’s atomic, She’s the Oh, She’s the rain/ And the girl/ So fine you wanna scream/Yeah Yeah
