This is a perfect childhood romance that everyone is looking forward to. From one who filled with ugly pimples, braces and all to a pair of charming bright young adults. Let’s see what the couple say about their story.
Shermaine the Bride:
Kevin and I knew each other since 10 or 11 in children’s church, but we used to hate each other especially when there were these competitive “boys and girls” rivalry games in church. We practically saw each other grow up, and we stayed in the same residence with houses just a stone’s throw away from each other.
He saw me through my geeky braces look, and I saw his bad-boy wannabe moments. We grew up teasing each other’s guts. We were nothing beyond friendship. OK, maybe a little… I had a tiny crush on him during our high school phase, but I never pursued it.
We never really saw each other as “someone to love”, until one traumatic experience at 18! I loved walking around my neighbourhood alone. But on one unlucky occasion, I bumped into a man who was obviously wasn’t in his right mind. He flashed me with his “you-know-what” down there!
“I should call Kevin Lee, he stays nearby.” That was my first thought in mind. And called him I did, but he didn’t pick up. Bless his heart! He was actually sitting for an exam in uni. The moment I told him about my encounter, he immediately rushed back just to see me.
The rest is history. Love blossomed. We dated 2 years, we went through long distance for our 3rd and 4th year together, we dated another 2 more. We got engaged in our 6th year, and now we’re getting married at the 7th!
Kevin the Groom:
Although we did know of each other’s existence at about age 11 or 12, I never had any romantic feelings for her until I was 13.
It was our first youth camp together. We were assigned to manage some games for participants. Being the “miss perfectionist” as she is, she obviously wanted to make sure everything was flawless. For that, I sneakily made used of every opportunity I had to “discuss about the games” with her over the phone.
It was also the first time I realised how it was like to be jealous. There was this guy she became close with from the cam, and they hugged! Not trying to sound possessive, but hey, that’s my girl!
Things eventually developed much later when we were 14. I assume it was a mutual feeling. We were friends, but we tried to mask our feelings in fear of being teased by friends. However, we sort of withdrew ourselves from the friendship. She dropped off the radar for a good 3 years.
Anyway, time has a funny way of healing things. We reconnected again, thanks to the horny guy incident. Despite the 3 years of silence, I somehow felt that things weren’t just done yet between us.
As cheesy as it sounds, I think everything started back then. Timing has a funny way of sorting things out on its own. If we had pursued each other earlier, the “us” now might not have worked out, or it could have been a totally different story. But luckily for me, we are together here and now.
May your marriage be filled with awesome moments and lots of laughter.
