Most couples hire a DJ or a band as the main entertainment for the reception. However, not everyone is into music, singing and dancing. Here are some suggestions to add fun to the party!
For the game buffs:
Wedding Guest Bingo
Get your guests to provide an interesting fact about themselves along with their RSVP. Collate this information into a few Bingo cards. Place these cards and pencils on the tables for guests to play. Offer a prize for the first guest to get a ‘Bingo’.
Why play this game?
It’s a fun way for guests to learn about the other guests. Also useful for both sides of the family to learn about each other.
For the camera buffs:
I Spy
Place a list of photos you want on each table. The list could include: the mother of the bride crying; the groom and his father; the youngest guest at the wedding; the best/worst dancer in action; the mad scramble for the bridal bouquet. Have the guests upload the photos for you after the wedding.
Why play this game?
You will have access to loads of photographs that the official photographer might have missed, and photos taken from different angles.
For the guests’ entertainment:
The Shoe Game
Place two chairs back-to-back on the dance floor for the bride and groom. Remove both shoes, then trade one with your new spouse so you’re holding one of each. A pre-determined person asks a series of questions about the two of you and your relationship (Eg: Who is better at cooking? Who asked the other on the first date?). After each question, hold up the shoe of the person you think is the best answer. Half the fun for you is wondering if your new spouse answered the same as you.
NB: Questions should be prepared before hand by the person coordinating this game. The couple should NOT be privy to the questions beforehand.
Why play this game?
It’s a good way for you guests to get to know you better.
The Wedding Crossword
Create a crossword puzzle with interesting trivia about your couplehood. Examples: Where are we going for our honeymoon? Who introduced us? In which month did we get engaged?
To help them along, have the MC randomly provide some answers in his monologue/between speeches etc.
Why play this game?
On a day celebrating YOU as a couple, why not share little details that make you, you.
All couples want their wedding to be fun. Perhaps a game or two might get yours rated ‘over the top’.
