1. What’s Your Wedding Dress Like?

To create a balanced look, it’s important to keep the design and colour of your dress in mind when you’re searching for your ideal wedding shoes. If your wedding dress is minimal, you could add interest to the overall look with a pair of embellished heels. For a touch of glamour, go for gold or silver glittery heels. If your wedding dress has lace, pearls and other dainty details, don’t saturate it with an equally embellished pair of wedding shoes. Instead, opt for a simple pair of satin heels. In terms of colour, a pair of ivory or black heels will go well with any wedding dress. For something a little different, choose a pair of rose gold or grey heels!

When it comes to the length of your wedding dress, safety is key. If you find it hard to navigate in a long dress, consider getting a 2-inch heel so you don’t trip while walking down the aisle. Otherwise, a 3 or 4-inch pumps, peep toes or stilettos would elevate your height. Petite ladies, if you can walk in high heels, I advise that you wear them on your wedding day. You don’t want to “disappear” in your wedding dress! For those of you who will be wearing a short wedding dress, you can also create the illusion of long legs with the right pair of wedding shoes. Nude coloured heels, pointed or d’Orsay pumps are great options to help elongate your legs.

2. Where Will The Wedding Ceremony Be Held?

This is an important factor to consider. It’s easy to have the mindset that your ideal wedding shoes have to look good for the camera. However, you shouldn’t ignore their practicality. Your wedding shoes should give you confidence but also the ability to walk around safely and comfortably. Weari4-inch inch stiletto at a beach wedding is probably not a good choice. Flats or a wedge, on the other hand, would give you more stability and comfort. Consider the condition of your wedding venue and keep that in mind when you shop for your ideal wedding shoes.

3. What’s Your Style?

When it comes to major events, we tend to look to others for inspiration and forget to inject our own personality. We may think that our style isn’t suitable for a particular event but there are no hard and fast rules! I’m not saying you should turn up to a wedding in sweatpants and sneakers because that’s what you usually wear, but you could certainly wear bright yellow heels if that reflects your style. If you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing, it’ll have an impact on how you feel on your wedding day. So go for something that makes you feel confidence, beautiful or even sexy. Purchase the pair of wedding shoes that you want and not what your friends and family think is nice.

4. Can You Wear Your Wedding Shoes In The Future?

Why buy something that you’ll only wear once? Think about how you could reuse your wedding shoes after the reception and ceremony. Learn to maximize everything in your wardrobe. This will help you save money and reduce the impact of waste on Mother Earth (recycling or donating is also creating waste!). Black and nude wedding shoes will go well in any occasion (i.e. birthdays, baby showers, company dinners etc.) but you could also consider get a pair of silver or grey heels. They’re not only fancy but elegant and unique (to be honest, not many people own a pair of grey heels!).

5. Get Used To Them

To ensure that your wedding shoes feel comfortable on your big day, wear them a few weeks beforehand so that they mould to your feet and prevent blisters on your wedding day. If you’re not great with heels, practice while you’re at home. Finally, consider packing a pair of flat wedding shoes to change when tiredness and discomfort start to set in. You’ll thank me later!
