Ethan of YH Photography loves to see beautiful things and beautiful people especially when they are smiling. The touching moment of happiness fills him with joy and love. He believes that he is fortunate to be given the talent and skills to capture and store all these memorable moments for others on their big day.

Getting a professional camera after 3 years of hard work, Ethan has been in love with photography ever since he was younger and his first task was to take photos for his sister’s wedding. Not long after, an experienced photographer approached him asking him to join the wedding photography industry.

Focusing more on candid and natural photography styles, Ethan occasionally takes artistic shots for portraits but still prefers the subject to be spontaneous for a more authentic photo. Ethan and his team at YH Photography also believes that a good relationship with his clients is the reason why he can produce many amazing and meaningful wedding photos. Ethan feels the need to learn about the couples’ stories to know how he should capture the photos.

Instead of having a favourite spot for photo shooting sessions, Ethan stresses that the weather and environment is much more important. If it is too hot, the couple will easily get flustered hence spoiling and affecting their mood for the photo shoot session. Or if it rains, the whole YH Photography team and the couple have to postpone to another day which delays the whole process.

Ethan also mentions that he has also met with a few couples who are upset and disappointed at the final outcome of their wedding photos. He found the root of the problem and realized that at many times, it is the lack of research on the photographer by the couple. Some of his advices are:

Advice No. 1: Determine what kind of photography style you want.

Is it more of a candid style? Artistic editing or music video type of photos? Even so, couples have to be realistic with what they want. There was a couple who wanted to pose like a model during the tea ceremony. It is inappropriate to interfere this auspicious ceremony and will upset the elderly which is why couples have to weigh the pro and cons before telling their photographer what to do. Also, how can the photographer do his work properly if the couple is impatient while the team is doing the setup to achieve the result? Ethan believes that if the couple demands for a unique wedding photo shoot, they have to understand the setup, preparation and research needed to fulfill their requests and not rush the photographing team.

Advice No. 2: Meet up with the photographer.

Viewing the photos online and looking at the actual photos are two different things. Couples should arrange for a meet up with different photographers to browse through their portfolios for comparison. Also, through the meet up couples can determine whether they like the photographer’s personality or not because it is important to have a good relationship with the man behind the lens. Assess his attitude and quality of his works because all these will affect the final result.

Advice No. 3: Request to view a full set of photos.

When meeting up with a photographer, make sure you take a look at the full set of photos instead of the ones posted online. Nowadays, photographers will only post a few photos online and most of it are their best shots. Couples need to look at the overall set of photo to see the consistency of quality and whether or not it meets their requirements. Also, be frank about your ideas so that your photographer can give helpful suggestions for your wedding photo shoot.

Remember that it’s better to prepare yourselves with questions when meeting a photographer to know how they work and whether their personality and style is in your favour!
