What Does He Do Before the Wedding? – Part 1

By Carol Edwin

Most wedding articles focus on the bride or bride-to-be. They undeniably have a lot of things to do and coordinate prior to the wedding. But, what about the groom? What does the groom have to do in preparation for the wedding? Here is how you, the groom, can contribute to the wedding preparations.

  1. Make a list of family, friends and co-workers you’d like to invite to the wedding.
  2. Most girls already have an idea of what kind of wedding they want, so sit down and talk to her about it. Share with her your own expectations of the wedding.
  3. Work out a reasonable budget for the wedding that you both want, and decide on how (if) the costs will be shared out.
  4. Go with her to scout for a suitable venue for the wedding ceremony and reception.
  5. If you have fairly decent handwriting, offer to help her address invitations. It is a tedious task, and she would appreciate your offer.
  6. Choose a Best Man. The Best Man’s duties will be covered in a separate article.
  7. Get your outfit. Go to a suit or tuxedo shop with your fiancée so she can suggest a style that complements her dress.
  8. Decide on your Best Man’s outfit. His outfit should NOT be exactly the same as yours.
  9. Help choose a boutonnière style. You will need one for yourself, your Best Man, your parents and siblings, and your in-laws. Put a sibling or relative in charge of distributing these on the day.
  10. Get the wedding bands. Engrave the wedding date on the rings as a gesture to remember your big day (and to remind you when your anniversary is).

To emphasize the fact that a groom-to-be has a huge role to play in the preparations for the big day, this list continues. Look out for What Does He Do Before The Wedding – Part 2.
