2006, Brickfields Asia College – That was how their story began.
Lionel and Rebecca were both law students, pursuing for their Certificate in Legal Practice. They clicked really well, but unluckily for Lionel, Rebecca didn’t thought much of him back then.
Lionel: I had to level up my charm in order to convince her to change her mind…
It was the age of MSN, and just like any youths, they had late night chats online. One special night, Lionel decided to turn up unannounced at Rebecca’s doorstep with an Oreo Mcflurry that she was craving for that night.
Good news for Lionel’s effort; that night was a turning point for their friendship.
Rebecca: I remember being stunned and I felt compelled to invite him in to share the ice-cream with him since he had come all the way. I also remember being embarrassed because I was dressed in “home clothes” and totally unprepared for visitors at that hour! (It was close to midnight.)
Since then, shy Lionel became bolder in his affection towards his eye-candy. He really enjoyed giving Rebecca surprises and doing nice things for her. Right before her exam, Lionel cheered her up with a whole box of Brands chicken essence. He offered her rides to class whenever she is feeling weak. He even exchanged seats in class just so he could sit next to the girl, despite all teasing in the process.
Everyone agrees Lionel’s a passive person, but he certainly wasn’t submissive at all in showing his interest! He eventually expressed his interest with a bouquet of fresh flowers. Rebecca wasn’t sure of her feelings for him at that time, but she was surely glad to have given them a try.
Throughout 9 years of relationship, they had way more ups and downs. Lionel is exceptionally calm, patient, supportive and kind. He accepts Rebecca for who she is, in spite of her grumpy impatient flaws.
Rebecca: He gives me the warmest hugs and makes me feel safe. He tells me I’m beautiful even when I’m not looking or feeling it. He tells me “it’s okay” when I’ve been silly. He makes me laugh. He enjoys going shopping with me. He shows me the respect every girl wants. I cannot get any luckier than this.
