The heirs of Naza and Berjaya Group, S.M. Faliq Nasimuddin and Chryseis Tan, tied the knot on 3 February 2018 at the Chateau. Located in Bukit Tinggi, the power couple celebrated the union of two cultures with their friends and family in, literally, a castle on a hill. Faliq met Chryseis while they were studying at an international school. The couple started dating in 2014 and eventually got engaged last year. The coming together of two cultures isn’t the first for the Nasimuddin family. Back in 2010, Faliq’s brother SM Nasarudin married Marion Caunter, who is of Eurasian-Chinese descent.

A Nod To Chinese Tradition
The auspicious day started with a gate-crashing ceremony. This Chinese tradition requires the groom and his best men to go through a series of obstacles set up by the bridesmaids before the groom could pick up the bride. As you can see, Faliq and his band of brothers were definitely up for the challenge!
For the fetch-the-bride session and tea ceremony, Faliq and Chryseis decided to honor the Chinese tradition by donning the traditional Chinese wedding wear. Doesn’t Faliq look dashing in a maroon samfu? And don’t get me started on how elegant and striking Chryseis looks in her gold, silver and red qun kua (??). Qun Kua symbolizes luck, happiness and bountiful blessings. It’s no wonder that all brides choose to wear this traditional two piece on their big day.

Immediately after by the gate-crashing ceremony comes the most significant custom in a Chinese wedding – the Tea Ceremony. This is where the bride and groom serve tea in a gaiwan (Chinese lidded bowl without handles) to both sides of the parents, signifying that members of both families are now relatives. It’s also a show of respect and gratitude to parents for their unwavering dedication, love and care.

For the solemnization ceremony, Faliq wore the traditional Baju Melayu with a sampin covered in turquoise and pink embroidery. The bride, on the other hand, wore a tasteful wedding gown designed by Yefta Gunawan. I really like how Yefta combined modesty and a touch of oriental element with the mandarin collar.
