By Sabrina RIca

I love weddings. I mean, what’s not to love? The dancing, the drinking, the dressing up, the music and especially the dessert. Most weddings that you have attended will surely have a show stopper multi-tiered wedding cake but who said that’s the only thing you can serve your guest? Grandiose wedding cakes will always have their place at some receptions, but more and more couples are opting for alternative desserts to serve their guests and here’s a list on how you can twist things up for dessert.

1. Cupcakes

On every one of the wedding guest table, have a cupcake stand as the centerpiece and fill them up with neatly iced cupcakes. Not only does it look attractive as a decorative item, it serves up as dessert and hungry guest will have something to munch on. Plus, children will be so excited to see such colorful food in front of them. Moreover, you can use same colored flowers as the icing to decorate the tables or even lighted tea candles to brighten the atmosphere.

2. Ice Cream

Who doesn’t love ice cream? After dinner, surprise the guests with individually served bowls of ice cream with some delicious toppings. Maybe add fruits to them or even chocolate syrup, strawberry sauce, chocolate rice, chocolate chips, sprinkles or whipped cream. That or give each one a bowl of banana split! 3 scoops of different flavored ice cream with a piece of banana, cost saving and delicious! The more creative you get, the more unforgettable your wedding day becomes. You create memories by thinking out of the box and not going with the traditional ideas that couple all over the world do.

3. Lamingtons

Lamingtons are a dessert that originated from Australia. It consists of squares of sponge cake coated first in a layer of traditional chocolate sauce, then in desiccated coconut, making them great finger food. The whole mixture between chocolate and coconut makes this dessert mouthwatering and definitely wedding guest would be glad to take a bite.

4. Pies

Have you ever thought of serving some freshly baked pies? Pies are delicious as desserts and incorporating it into a wedding can be one hell of crazy way to be creative. Try serving different flavored pies, apples (add almonds and walnuts for added flavor), blueberries, raspberries, banana, cranberries, and strawberries garnished with cinnamon or nutmeg. The choice to flavor is endless plus, not only does it smell heavenly, it taste exquisite.

5. Puddings

During the weekends, we have all made yummy pudding and served it in those adorable miniature ramekins to our friends and family but have you ever considered serving pudding as wedding dessert? All kids love pudding and even adults, add some fruits in with some creative decorating styles and voila! Innovative wedding dessert served. Serve puddings in glass bowls so it appears more attractive, use colorful fruit combination like kiwi and blueberry or raspberry or mandarin oranges with mini strawberries.

6. Doughnuts

I’m sure every once in a while you would have stopped by Big Apple for a mug of coffee and some delicious doughnuts. They come in multiple designs so why not serve doughnuts as the wedding dessert? You can either have one huge doughnut stand as the center piece or serve them individually on a tray at each guest table. Don’t serve only one type as there wouldn’t be any variety instead; add colors and flavors so the whole event will be very joyful.

7. Chocolate Lava/Brownies

A chocolate lover’s favorite thing to indulge in especially with hot chocolate fudge drizzled on, topping it off with vanilla ice cream or sieved icing sugar on top. Need I say more? This will definitely be an instant hit among wedding guests because of its rich chocolate texture that oozes out of the lava cake or the luscious slice of brownie.

8. Pavlova

Pavlova is a meringue-based dessert named after the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. It is a meringue cake with a crisp crust and soft, light inside, usually topped with whipped cream and fruit. Pavlova’s are delicious as tea time snacks and also the fruits used to decorate it make them very attractive. You can either make them in cupcake sizes and serve individually or serve it as one dessert dish at each guest table.

9. Macaroons

Ah, macaroons! One of my favorite desserts. Macaroons are literally something that I can have for breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner and supper. You can be extremely creative with the filling that you use to pipe in-between, you can use nutella, peanut butter, jams, butter cream, caramel, cream cheese, coffee, mint & chocolate. Not only do they look amazing when used as the centerpiece, they are so colorful!

10. Chocolate

Not only are chocolates a perfect idea for weddings, I means come on, it’s chocolates so nothing can ever go wrong but they also do make for perfect gift ideas for the wedding itself. A little box with handmade chocolates given to guest can also be doubled as the wedding dessert and the door gift. We can choose to serve liquored or non-liquored chocolates, with filling or without, with nuts or without but one things for sure, you can never go wrong with chocolates.
