5 Steps: Great Music For Your Special Day

We have all been to that one wedding where the songs cut halfway through because the speakers were bad, or there was no music at all, no live band, nothing. Whether the sound system malfunctioned or the absence of music, everyone will remember the wedding as a boring one and that the couple did not put much thought into their wedding day.

To stay away from problems as such, couples need to first take a few steps to ensure that they have a great wedding that has good music to set the mood and create a romantic atmosphere.

1. Live Band vs Speakers

Depending on the budget of the bride and groom, a live band can be much more expensive than playing music through the speakers. Of course, having a live band means it is live music and definitely will give the guests a different experience. The atmosphere of a wedding with a live band is also incomparable to playing through the speakers even though it doesn’t cost much to put the songs on loop. Live bands are also able to sing and play music impromptu if guests request for songs to be sung. However, again it depends on how much the couple is willing to spend.

2. Venue

After deciding on which type of medium to play music on your wedding, you have to make sure the venue is suitable. A live band needs some space for the instruments and musicians, therefore make sure there is ample of space for them to perform comfortably. If you are planning on looping your songs on your wedding, contact the person-in-charge on the availability and condition of the speakers there.

3. Songs Selection

There are many factors that contributes to songs selection. One of it is the theme of the wedding. You do not want to play a rock song at a classical romantic vintage wedding, and definitely not a song about getting over your ex at your wedding! Choose a few songs that are compatible to the theme of the wedding and then make sure they do not mean something else besides being in love because well, it’s your day of celebrating love!

4. Suitability vs Favouritism

After listing down all the songs, couples have to shortlist the music list based on suitability and not on favouritism. Carly Rae Jepsen’s I Really Like You is the current summer hit but that does not mean it will fit well for a wedding compared to Whitney Houston’s classic hit and wedding favourite, I Will Always Love You. Favouritism will get in the way of decision-making, hence, couples have to revise the list a few times before confirming the songs.

5. Ask for Opinions

For those who are hiring a live band for their big day, ask the band leader for suggestions and opinions on the shortlisted songs and see what the professionals have to say. Those who are going to utilize the speakers can ask friends who are music junkies to share their thoughts on the chosen songs. After getting the nod from the live band and friends, you are all set to tick off music on the wedding checklist!
